The Northwood Band Honor Cord recognizes students who demonstrate long-term excellence, commitment, leadership, and service to the Northwood Band program throughout their high school career. Honor cords are awarded at the annual Band Banquet prior to graduation.
Eligibility Requirements
To earn a Northwood Band Honor Cord, students must:
Be enrolled in at least one band class during each year of high school.
Successfully complete their senior year as an active member of the Northwood Band program.
Remain in good academic, behavioral, attendance, and financial standing throughout their participation in the program.
Return all school-owned uniforms, instruments, music, and equipment.
Earn a minimum of 100 Honor Cord Points as outlined below.
Students who voluntarily withdraw from the band program during their senior year will forfeit eligibility for a Band Honor Cord unless an exception is approved by the Band Director due to extenuating circumstances.
Honor Cord Point System
Marching Band (each Fall Semester): 12 points
Concert Band (each Spring Semester): 12 points
Jazz Band (each year): 5 points
Winter Guard (each season): 5 points
Indoor Percussion (each season): 5 points
Musical Pit Orchestra (each year): 5 points
Overall Superior at MPA (each year): 5 points
Overall Superior at Jazz MPA (each year): 5 points
Marching Band Leadership Position (each year): 5 points
All-District Audition (each): 2 points
All-District Selection (each): 5 points
All-State Audition (each): 5 points
All-State Selection (each): 10 points
Region Jazz Audition (each): 2 points
Region Jazz Selection (each): 5 points
All-State Jazz Audition (each): 5 points
All-State Jazz Selection (each): 10 points
Color Guard Eligibility
Because Color Guard members may not be enrolled in a band class every semester, they may also earn a Northwood Band Honor Cord through sustained participation in the Northwood Guard program.
To qualify, a Color Guard member must:
Successfully complete at least five seasons of participation in the Northwood Guard program, including any combination of Marching Band Color Guard and Winter Guard.
Successfully complete their senior year as an active member of the Northwood Guard program.
Remain in good academic, behavioral, attendance, and financial standing.
Return all school-owned uniforms, equipment, and materials.
Earn a minimum of 100 Honor Cord Points through the activities listed above, where applicable.
Special Circumstances
The Band Director reserves the right to make final determinations regarding Honor Cord eligibility and may approve exceptions in cases involving documented extenuating circumstances.
